Why Net Giver?

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

We thought a lot about what we'd name our website. We are all about living life better; learning from the greatest investors and thinkers; and avoiding mistakes - the latter is a crucial aspect of living a better life.

Mohnish Pabrai is one of the well known investors in the US and a self-proclaimed copycat of the timeless investors Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. He and his best friend Guy Spier, a Zurich-based hedge fund manager won a charity auction for a 'power lunch' with Buffett in July 2007. Since then, and even 16 years later, he is always asked what he took away from his mentors Buffett and Munger.

To which he replied, well, whatever they had to say to people, they have already said that in various books - and most of it is well known. After a point, he was more keen to observe them and share the intangibles - learn from how they behave and might not have explicitly said.

That's when he discovered that very intuitively, both Buffett and Munger, and the friends who they have - were all Net Givers. A net giver is simply someone who gives more than he takes.

Munger has advised to be very judicious on who one spends his/her time with - and Pabrai, following suit - has consciously spent time with Net givers.

We all must consciously strive to be Net Givers in our daily lives, and we hope our website serves as a constant reminder to give and be around givers.
