Non-intuitive insights

I love it. When I discovered they exist, I loved the sheer profoundness of non-intuitive insights OR the opposite of world wisdom.


And today, I seek it. When I speak with founders, they tell me a lot of non-intuitive learnings they have had from the market. For example - an offline grocery retail guy said I have one franchise doing really well, and then I open another franchise just 700m away. The first guy instead of screaming his lungs at me (for potential cannibalization), actually tells me that his business has increased and so has the business of the second guy.


Now, How wonderful is that!


I will share my non-intuitive insights right below -

  1. Entrepreneurship is not about risk-taking, it is about risk-minimization - Credit to Mohnish Pabrai - Heads, I win; Tails, I don't lose much!

  2. Do less, not more - Shut that really cool Ken podcast, Shut that really cool and insightful Youtube video - the world is full of those and it is only increasing. Focus rather on the 2-3 most important things you want to get done that day and do it.

  3. No shortcuts in life, wait for compounding to happen - Patience is key and do not be in a hurry.

  4. Concept of ENOUGH - from Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. You already have enough - do not run behind more money or just money.

  5. Better to do YOUR job well, than eye the boss's job. Ignore titles, ignore what you will be in the future - be the best version of you, Now.

  6. Again, repeat of 2 as it is so important. Less is more - Do less well, than more. Know less breadth but more depth. Have just 1 or 2 items in your To do. Less, less, less. Case in point - Buffett spends the majority of his time in his cabin, reading. Not jetsetting from one meeting to another.

  7. Recognising yourself as a "fool", non-knowledgeable rather than a know-it-all. This will keep you curious and hungry to learn more.

  8. Never "over prepare" for a meeting - when you over prepare i.e. rehearse your lines, make it definitive - you become inflexible. You have already imagined the meeting in your head and do not allow it to take any other direction, leaving the other person unempowered. With the result that your objective is not met! Only have a few key lines, points that you definitely would want to leave with the other person. AND BE FLEXIBLE. Gauge where the conversation is going and go along with it, for best results.
